POP3 is used by e-mail clients (Outlook, Eudora, Netscape, etc.) to retrieve a person's e-mail from a mail server. POP3 is one of the most popular services on the Internet, and one of the favorite services hackers try to break into.

POP3 login failed-Multiple failed logins often indicate someone trying to execute password grinding on the system.
POP3 port probe-Someone's checking to see if POP3 is supported on the system, in order to try one of these attacks.
